California’s 43rd Annual Native American Day -The East County Herald

SACRAMENTO — This year’s 43rd Annual Native American Day, celebrating Native American Cultures, and leaders will be held Thursday, Sept. 23. The theme is Tribal Justice: Protecting and Preserving Tribal Families and Communities, and four San Diegans are being recognized for leadership in promoting tribal justice.

Sycaun Band of Kumeyaay Nation Tribal Chairman Daniel J.Tucker, as well as Sycuan’s Chief of Police are among those to be recognized
for leadership in promoting tribal justice.

The yearly event, a celebration of Native American culture, youth, leaders and community, features Native dancing, drums, and singers, speakers, and booths. It also includes participation by state agencies, and offers an opportunity for state workers to interface with the California Indian communities. California’s 43rd Annual Native American Day Sycuan Tribal leaders to receive honors at celebration

Presentation of honors by the California Justice Department, Office of Native American Affairs will take place on the South-steps of the State’s Capitol Building. Other locals honored include Honorable Anthony Brandenburg, Chief Judge of the Intertribal Court of Southern California and Bo Mazzetti, Chairman of the Rincon Band of Luiseño Indians.
